Liverpool in dire straits: What is wrong with Klopp's team?
Liverpool have been putting up emphatic performances in the Premier League, crushing every opponent in their path, but the Champions League has not been a smooth sail for them, and Klopp's men have found themselves in deep waters after losing to Paris Saint-Germain last night. Are Liverpool lacking in any particular respect? Is it a reason to worry for Liverpool fans? Let's decode here.
Liverpool's midfield issue needs to be solved by Klopp
In the summer transfer window, Klopp had brought in Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Fabinho, but chose to keep them out (Keita, however, wasn't fit). Klopp went for a 4-3-3 formation which did not work at all as the blistering pace of Mbappe and Neymar became too hot to handle for Liverpool, and that is how they ended up conceding the first two goals.
Milner was the only one putting up a fight
James Milner was the only Liverpool midfielder putting up a decent fight against PSG's attack, as Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum had a poor day at work. However, it should also be noted that neither Keita nor Shaqiri were able to bring much to the table when they were brought in during the later stages of the match. Klopp must find a proper coherence in the midfield soon.
Liverpool's attack needs some firepower
Liverpool boast of probably the best front three in England with the trio of Salah, Mane, and Firmino. However, none of the three have been as prolific as they were last season, and this a huge problem looming over Liverpool. But this might not be their fault, as there is a severe lack in Liverpool's creativity in the midfield which is reducing their chances to score.
Alisson is conceding too many goals in UCL matches
Alisson has conceded five goals in the 13 EPL matches that has been played, but has ended by conceding seven in the five Champions League matches so far. It is surprising that he is not being able to emulate his form on the bigger stage.
