West Indies beat India in 3rd ODI: Here're records broken
India succumbed to a 43-run loss against West Indies in the third ODI in Pune even though captain Virat Kohli managed to score a record breaking 38th ODI century. West Indies have now leveled the series 1-1, and once again India's middle order crumbled down under pressure. MS Dhoni also continued his run of poor form. Here's the list of records broken.
Kemar Roach is a prolific batsman down the order
Roach has been involved in four out of the top five highest ninth-wicket partnerships between India and West Indies. Today, he and Ashley Nurse stitched a 56-run stand for the ninth wicket, only second to his partnership of 58 runs with Sunil Narine at Port of Spain. He was also involved in a 51* partnership with Andre Russell at North Sound in 2011.
Bumrah scripts a record on his return
Jasprit Bumrah was added to the squad for the last three ODIs and he did not disappoint with his performance, registering four scalps today. JB now ranks alongside Mohammad Shami in terms of the highest wickets taken by an Indian ODI bowler after 42 matches, with 76 wickets each. They are followed by Ajit Agarkar, with 75 scalps under his belt.
Another record for Milestone Man Virat Kohli
As he always does, Indian skipper Virat Kohli scripted another record tonight. He completed 6,000 runs scored in Asia during the chase, and became the fastest to do so. He has again overtaken his childhood idol Sachin Tendulkar in this regard. While Sachin took 142 innings to complete the feat, Kohli has taken only 117 innings to do the same.
Kohli first Indian to score three consecutive ODI tons
Virat Kohli became the first Indian and captain to score three consecutive ODI centuries. Currently, he averages 59.90 in ODIs and has also gone past the career total runs of MS Dhoni. Among players scoring most international centuries as captain, Kohli (33) ranks behind Ricky Ponting (41). Graeme Smith also has 33 but King Kohli is sure to go past him.
Records galore continue for Kohli
Kohli is now one of the few captains with three ODI centuries in a series. He has achieved it twice, doing so against South Africa in 2017-18. Ganguly scored three centuries in the 2002-03 World Cup and AB did so against India in 2015-16. He has also now scored the most runs in an ODI series for India against West Indies with 404 runs.
Further records of the Indian captain
In terms of the most number of consecutive centuries in a country, Kohli ranks alongside AB de Villiers with both scoring four tons in India. Babar Azam leads the list, who scored five consecutive centuries in the UAE. He has also joined two legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in terms of being the ones to score 8,000+ international runs in India.
