#CoronavirusOutbreak: Players we may not see if IPL gets suspended
Every year, the Indian Premier League brings forth a scintillating opportunity for the players to stand out amid the extravaganza. However, in a huge blow, this year's IPL edition has been postponed from March 29 to April 15 in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. Let us have a look at the players who may not feature in competitive cricket if IPL 2020 gets called-off.
Dhoni was expected to make the most of IPL 2020
MS Dhoni's highly-anticipated return in the yellows got further amplified when the former Indian skipper reached Chennai for the training camp. While he hasn't played competitive cricket since India's semi-final exit from the World Cup 2019, IPL was deemed as his mini audition for the impending T20 World Cup. The 38-year-old will have a tough road ahead if IPL gets redundant.
AB de Villiers' international comeback relied on IPL performance
The forthcoming IPL season would have brought back the South African star AB de Villiers back into contention. Head coach Mark Boucher hinted at the comeback of AB de Villiers in international cricket, but it was subject to his IPL performance. Boucher advised him to mark his availability for national selection before June 1. De Villiers recently featured in the Big Bash League 2019-20.
Gayle has not played international cricket since August 2019
'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle fared well in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) even though he has been away from T20 internationals since March 2019. He last played for West Indies in the ODI series against India last year. Gayle's chances of an international comeback will be boosted if the upcoming IPL edition gets underway. Paradoxically, his claim gets bleak with no IPL.
IPL is crucial for Steyn's consistency in international cricket
A prolonged shoulder injury has dented the plight of Proteas pace spearhead Dale Steyn, lately. The fast bowler was ruled out of the ICC 2019 World Cup, owing to the injury. Steyn, who has already retired from Test cricket, featured in the T20I series against Australia this year. Notwithstanding, IPL was a checkpoint Steyn had clear to keep the ball rolling.
