Team India not carrying burden of NZ upset: Jasprit Bumrah
Indian cricket team captain, Jasprit Bumrah, has exuded confidence ahead of the five-match Test series against Australia. The first match will start on November 22 at Perth's Optus Stadium. Bumrah claimed that his team is not weighed down by their recent 0-3 home Test series defeat against New Zealand. He stressed that every new game starts from scratch irrespective of previous results.
Bumrah on starting afresh
"When you win you start from zero but when you lose, then also you also start from zero. We are not carrying any baggage from India," Bumrah said in the pre-match press conference. He admitted that while there were lessons to be learned from the New Zealand series, those conditions were different and their results in Australia have historically been different.
Bumrah to lead India in Rohit's absence
Bumrah will be leading the Indian team in the opening Test against Australia as regular captain Rohit Sharma is on paternity leave. He also revealed the team has finalized its playing XI for the first match but will announce it only at the toss. "We have finalized our playing XI and you will get to know tomorrow morning before the start of the match," Bumrah said.
Bumrah hints at Mohammed Shami's potential inclusion
Bumrah also hinted at the possible return of veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami for the series. Shami's exclusion from the squad has been a major talking point. "Shami has been an integral part, and the management is keeping a close eye. If everything goes well, you might see him here as well," Bumrah said. After a year-long break, Shami recently made a successful comeback in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal.
