Wasim Jaffer set to become the head coach of Vidarbha
Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer may take over as the new coach of Vidarbha cricket team. Jaffer, who represented Vidarbha in the final few years of his career, is in line to replace former coach Chandrakant Pandit. Earlier this month, the 42-year-old announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. According to sources, Pandit left Vidarbha to coach Madhya Pradesh. Here is more.
Jaffer has a good rapport with the players
"Wasim Jaffer could take Pandit's place. He said recently after retiring that he is intending to get into coaching. For now, there is no official work being done at the VCA, but Jaffer has a good reputation among the players," the source told IANS.
I haven't received anything, says Jaffer
However, Jaffer cleared that he has not been informed about the offer yet, but he will likely consider it when communicated. "If I get any communication on this from them then certainly I will consider it. But for now I haven't received anything," he said. Jaffer joined the Vidarbha camp in 2015 after ending his association with former team Mumbai.
VCA yet to take a decision
VCA President Anand Jaiswal asserted that the committee is yet to take a decision on the matter. "Nothing is final yet and because of the coronavirus situation we can't conduct any meetings," he said. He added, "I can't comment on who is being considered or ruled out, these are matters that can be decided after consultation with all officials, the cricket development committee."
Jaffer has a record 19,410 FC runs to his name
In an international career that spanned over eight years, Jaffer scored 1,954 runs from 60 innings at 33.11. Besides, he was a veteran of India's First-class cricket, having amassed 19,410 runs from 421 innings at an average of 50.67. The tally also included a record 57 hundreds. In February 2020, Jaffer became the first player to register 12,000 runs in Ranji Trophy history.
