Veteran batsman Wasim Jaffer has announced his retirement from all formats of the game. The batting stalwart was a true champion in domestic circuit and won numerous titles. Jaffer humbled to have played cricket, thanks loved ones
"First of all, I would like to thank The Almighty Allah, who gave me the talent to play this beautiful game. I''d like to also thank my family for encouraging me to pursue the sport as a profession and my wife, who left a cosy life of England to create a lovely home for our children and me," he said in a statement.
Jaffer boasts of these records in Ranji Trophy
Jaffer is the only batsman to have scored 12,000-plus runs in Ranji Trophy (12,038). The right-handed batsman also tops the list for the highest number of centuries (40). Jaffer also finds himself in the list for most runs in a season. He had amassed 1,260 runs for Mumbai in the 2008-09 season. That's the seventh-most in terms of runs scored in a single season.
Jaffer is one of the legends in domestic cricket
Jaffer, who had made his FC debut in 1996-97, emerged as one of the legends of Indian domestic cricket. His brilliant run in the domestic tournament also earned him a spot in the Indian national squad. Jaffer went on to feature in 31 Tests and two ODIs for India. He last played a match for India in 2008 against South Africa.
