Serena Williams reveals reason behind her worst career loss
Serena Williams had suffered the worst defeat of her career, recently, against Johanna Konta in a 6-0, 6-1 battle at the Silicon Valley Classic. Post the match, Serena had stated that there's so much going on her mind and there's no time to be shocked about defeat. Although nobody paid that much attention back then, Serena has now gone on to reveal the reason.
Serena couldn't shake the news out of her mind
In an interview to the TIME Magazine, Serena said that she discovered prior to the match against Konta that her half-sister's killer was out on parole. Serena's sister was shot dead in 2003. "I couldn't shake it out of my mind. No matter what, my sister is not coming back for good behavior. It's unfair that she'll never have an opportunity to hug me."
Serena made painful discovery 10 minutes before the match
10 minutes before the game, Serena was scrolling through social media site Instagram, where she made this painful discovery. The man, who shot her sister back in 2003, got out on parole earlier this year. Robert Maxfield was sentenced to 15-year prison in 2006. Her sister, Yetunde Price, was just 31 years of age when the incident occurred. She was a mother of three.
How the incident folded back in 2003?
Price was shot dead during a confrontation in the southern suburb of Compton. It was the area where the Williams family used to live. The district back then was known for its notorious crimes. Maxfield opened fire when Price was in the passenger seat of her car, alongside partner Rolland. It was learnt that Maxfield was a part of the Crips gang.
