Warner backs this Indian batsman to break Lara's Test record

    What's the story

Australia's swashbuckling opener David Warner produced a splendid display with the bat as he smashed an unbeaten 335 on Day 2 of the second Test (Day-Night) against Pakistan in Adelaide on Saturday.

At a point, he was looking well on course to reach 350 and possibly break Brian Lara's record of 400.

Interestingly, Warner has backed this Indian batsman to do it.

    Ruthless Rohit

Rohit Sharma can score 400: Warner

Speaking on scoring 400, Warner said that the longer boundaries in Australia let fatigue to set in quickly, which makes it difficult.

"In the end, I tried to run twos to lift the ante because I couldn't actually think like I could clear the ropes. I think, one day, if I've to name a player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma.," he said.

    Sehwag

    Warner recalls Virender Sehwag's encouragement

Warner recalled that while playing in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils (DD) a few years back, it was former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag, who had encouraged him.

He had told him that he would become a better Test player than a T20 player.

"I said 'you're out of your mind, I've not played many first-class games'," Warner wondered.

    Advice

What was Sehwag's advice to Warner for success in Tests?

Warner further recalled that Sehwag's prime advice for him was to stay in the middle.

"He always said 'they will have slips and gully, covers open, mid-wicket, just stay there. Mid-off and mid-on will be up, you can get off to a flier and sit there all day and you'll be picking them all off'. That has always stuck in my mind," added Warner.

    Triple ton records

Records broken by Warner following his triple century

Following are the records Warner scripted with his triple ton:

He is the first triple centurion in Day-Night Tests for Australia.

He is the highest run-scorer in Day-Night Tests.

He has become the highest run-scorer in a Test innings in Adelaide.

He is also the third batsman to have scored 400 runs in Day-Night Tests.

He is the sixth opener with multiple 250-plus scores.

    Test records

Records held by Warner in Test cricket

As for his records in Tests:

He is the first batsman to score three centuries at the WACA, Perth.

He smashed the fastest Test half-century by an Australian, in just 23 deliveries.

He is the third batsman to score a century in both innings of a Test on three occasions.

He is the second opener to score three consecutive Test centuries on two occasions.
