Warner backs this Indian batsman to break Lara's Test record
What's the story
Australia's swashbuckling opener David Warner produced a splendid display with the bat as he smashed an unbeaten 335 on Day 2 of the second Test (Day-Night) against Pakistan in Adelaide on Saturday.
At a point, he was looking well on course to reach 350 and possibly break Brian Lara's record of 400.
Interestingly, Warner has backed this Indian batsman to do it.
Ruthless Rohit
Rohit Sharma can score 400: Warner
Speaking on scoring 400, Warner said that the longer boundaries in Australia let fatigue to set in quickly, which makes it difficult.
"In the end, I tried to run twos to lift the ante because I couldn't actually think like I could clear the ropes. I think, one day, if I've to name a player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma.," he said.
Sehwag
Warner recalls Virender Sehwag's encouragement
Warner recalled that while playing in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils (DD) a few years back, it was former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag, who had encouraged him.
He had told him that he would become a better Test player than a T20 player.
"I said 'you're out of your mind, I've not played many first-class games'," Warner wondered.
Advice
What was Sehwag's advice to Warner for success in Tests?
Warner further recalled that Sehwag's prime advice for him was to stay in the middle.
"He always said 'they will have slips and gully, covers open, mid-wicket, just stay there. Mid-off and mid-on will be up, you can get off to a flier and sit there all day and you'll be picking them all off'. That has always stuck in my mind," added Warner.
