Warne reveals a former Pakistan cricketer offered him USD 200,000
Australian legend Shane Warne has stumped former Pakistan cricketer Saleem Malik with a sensational revelation in his autobiography, 'No Spin'. After calling Steve Waugh a selfish captain in his book, Warne has revealed the proposal Malik had for him, if he bowled bad balls. Warne states that he was offered $200,000 by Malik to 'fix' the match. Here's more.
Warne was offered the bribe by Malik in 1994
Warne has stated that Malik offered him a bribe for match-fixing during a Test match in the 1994 series between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi. Warne said, "Saleem Malik offered me 200,000 US dollars, he said it will be in my room in half-an-hour if I bowl wide of the off-stump and the match was a draw."
Malik a repeated offender?
Saleem Malik has been a controversy's child, as several allegations surrounded his career especially match-fixing claims. In 1995, Aussie cricketers Mark Waugh and Tim May had also stated that they were offered bribes by Malik to lose matches. A Pakistani bookie Salim Pervez, had told Pakistan's Judicial Commission that Malik received $100,000 (Rs 42.5 lakh) for match-fixing in the Pakistan vs Australia match.
Warne was fined by Australia for leaking info to bookie
Meanwhile, both Warne and Waugh were fined $8,000 and $10,000 by Cricket Australia, for leaking information to an Indian bookie back in 1994 during the Singer Cup held in Sri Lanka.
Warne's autobiography was released this month
Warne's autobiography 'No Spin' had a global release on October 4. The book is set to challenge some enduring 'myths' and 'untruths' that surrounded him. He is also set to reveal many details about his extraordinary career. Warne has been hit by many controversies himself on and off the field. The legendary spinner picked a staggering 708 Test wickets with a best of 8/71.
