Waqar Younis to step down from PCB advisory role
Former Pakistan cricket team captain and legendary pacer Waqar Younis is reportedly planning to resign from his position as the Advisor of Cricket Affairs to PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. This news comes shortly after his appointment last month. During a meeting with Naqvi, Younis was offered a role similar to that of Robert Key, the managing director at England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Younis' resignation not linked to recent Test loss
Cricket Pakistan has reported that Younis is preparing to step down from his position, and the PCB is considering other candidates for the role. This development follows reports of Younis's absence from office for several days due to alleged frustration over the lack of cooperation from other officials. However, it's important to note that his decision is not related to Pakistan's recent Test defeat against Bangladesh.
Pakistan's historic Test defeat against Bangladesh
In the recently concluded Rawalpindi Test, Bangladesh achieved a historic 10-wicket victory over Pakistan. This marked their first-ever Test win against the latter. Despite a strong start with the bat, Pakistan's bowlers struggled as Bangladesh amassed 565 runs to secure a significant lead of 117 runs. The match ended with Bangladesh swiftly reaching their target of 30 runs within just seven overs.
Afridi criticized PCB and team management
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi criticized the PCB for the pitch preparation at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. He also questioned Test skipper Shan Masood and team management's decision to select four fast bowlers without including a single specialist spinner in the XI. This criticism came after Bangladesh's spinners outperformed their Pakistani counterparts, taking nine wickets compared to none by Pakistan's spinners.
