Vishnu Solanki hits a hundred days after losing newborn daughter
A grieving Vishnu Solanki, on Friday, scored a hundred as Baroda posted a mammoth total of 504 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 128 overs. Solanki scored the century on the back of a personal loss as he recently lost his newborn daughter. Solanki's ton came against Chandigarh during their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B game at the Vikash Cricket Ground.
The heart of the matter
Solanki reached Bhubaneswar on February 6 to play in the Ranji. On February 11, he heard about the birth of his baby girl. A few hours later, he was informed about the demise of the newborn. The next day, he returned to Vadodara to attend the funeral of his newborn. However, three days later, he return to Bhubaneswar to participate in Ranji.
Solanki joined the Baroda squad on Feb 23
Solanki missed Baroda's opening match against Bengal, which they lost by four wickets. He joined his team for training session on February 23 after completing his mandatory quarantine period. He was added to the Baroda squad on February 24 for their game versus Chandigarh. The 29-year-old smashed 104 runs off 165 balls in the first innings to take his side to a respectable total.

Batting first, Chandigarh managed 168 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 62.3 overs. Manan Vohra top-scored for his side with 43 runs. Abhimanyu Rajput picked five wickets for his side while giving away 47 runs. In reply, Baroda were at 504/8 at the end of the first session on Day 3. Jyotsnil Singh scored 96 runs while Jagjit Singh picked four wickets.

Solanki has played 24 First-Class games so far in his career and scored 1,575 runs at an impressive average of 40.38. He has struck five hundreds and eight fifties in the format. He has amassed 1,019 runs in 39 List-A games at 33.96 with the help of one ton and seven half-centuries. Solanki has scored 883 runs in 46 T20 games at 31.53.
