No technical issues, luck has deserted Kohli: Virender Sehwag
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag believes Virat Kohli is just enduring a slump. Brushing aside any flaws in the technical aspects of the Indian captain, Sehwag stated that fortunes have not favoured Kohli. The 31-year-old underwent a lean patch in the New Zealand tour, having failed to deliver across formats. India recently lost the Test series 0-2 to the Kiwis. Here's what Sehwag said.
Nothing works when a player is out of from: Sehwag
"When you are out of form, nothing works for you. It is not that Virat is not making efforts but luck has deserted him. In New Zealand, the ball moves a lot and if you are not getting runs, then challenge multiplies," Sehwag told Sportstar.
His hand-eye coordination is not under the scanner, feels Sehwag
Sehwag said there should be no spotlight on Kohli's hand-eye coordination. He pointed out that the synchronisation doesn't fade promptly. "Virat certainly doesn't have hand-eye coordination issues. Your hand-eye issue deteriorates over a period of time," Sehwag said. He added, "Not overnight. I am sure it is just a lack of form. Also, he has got out to good deliveries."
New Zealand bowlers gave Kohli a run for the money
The Indian skipper was unable to touch the 20-run mark even once in the two-Test series. He could muster mere 38 runs at an average of 9.50, his worst in an away Test series. Overall, Kohli racked up 218 runs from 11 innings at 19.81 in the tour. This was his lowest tally on a tour wherein he played all three formats.

Sehwag illustrates the importance of leaving in Test cricket
Sehwag also stated that Kohli needs to understand the importance of leaving the ball. "Of course, you can adapt, playing more on the front foot, by leaving the ball," said Sehwag. "For me, it is important to know which ball to leave and you can do that when you are feeling confident. The pressure also may have got to Virat," he concluded.
