Virender Sehwag feels this legend should become next Indian selector
MSK Prasad is currently the national selector of the BCCI for Team India. However, he was at the receiving end following India's loss in the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2019. Moreover, there's an ongoing debate as to if the board should have selectors with considerable international experience, unlike MSK. Meanwhile, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has backed this legend for the role.
Sehwag backs Anil Kumble to be the next Indian selector
Speaking on his opinion on who could be the next Indian selector, Sehwag said that, he would like to have former Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble, to be in charge. "He was the captain of the team and has a very good record. Later as a coach, he won us so many series," said Sehwag, as reported by Scroll.
Sehwag rues that he does not understand Conflict of Interest
"If you are a selector, then you have a lot of restrictions like you cannot commentate, write columns and then there's a conflict of interest which I don't understand," added Sehwag.
Sehwag feels conflict of interest is weird for players
Sehwag also questioned the conflict of interest law against the players and termed it 'weird'. He also questioned that if players are not supposed to do anything for the game, then who shall? "How does it matter if I have an academy, a school or position in an association?" he questioned further.
Sehwag jokes of being BCCI president by 2021
"I was asked to apply by joint secretary [late] Dr. Sridhar. No one asked me to apply this time, and by 2021, I don't know if I will apply. Maybe, I'll be the president of the board, so why to think of coach?" questioned Sehwag.
MSK often criticized for his selection process
While MSK has been serving as the chief selector for three years, his selection procedure has often led to criticism. Consequently, the latest criticism he faced was regarding India's number four batting spot. It was during the 2019 World Cup when KL Rahul batted at this position in the opening game, despite having said that Vijay Shankar was chosen specifically for the spot.
Kumble a strong choice as India selector
While this would be the first time Kumble could up the role as the selector, this won't be his first job in the BCCI, as he was India's coach in 2016. Nonetheless, the author feels that given the experience Kumble has in international cricket, he can certainly be the right man to select the right team for the right series.
