Team India undergoes competitive fielding drills ahead of Bangladesh Tests
The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, is gearing up for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The first match will be held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19-23. As part of their preparations, the squad engaged in a competitive fielding drill on Monday under the guidance of fielding coach T Dilip. This unique training approach was designed to foster team spirit and enhance performance levels amid Chennai's humid conditions.
Fielding drill: A competition with 2 segments
Dilip explained the structure of the fielding drill, which was divided into two segments. The first part involved a competitive element where players were split into groups for a catching contest. The team with fewer errors emerged victorious, with Virat Kohli's team claiming victory in this round. This innovative approach aimed to maintain high intensity during practice sessions despite the challenging weather conditions in Chennai.
Details of the second segment
The second part of the drill focused on specific fielding skills. Players were divided into bowlers and all-rounders, and batters. Each group worked on different aspects of fielding such as outfield and infield catching, attacking ground fielding, slip cordon catching, short-leg and silly point positions. Dilip praised the team's commitment and intensity during these drills, highlighting their adaptability to Chennai's hot weather conditions.
