'Lesser known' Test records of the run-machine Virat Kohli
With a 243-run knock in the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli made his highest Test score and in the process broke many records. During the test, he reached the 5,000 Test runs milestone, in 105 innings, the 4th quickest Indian player to do so after Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar. Let's look at his 'lesser known' Test records.
3,000 Test runs as captain for Kohli
Virat Kohli now has 3,000 plus runs as Indian captain, the only third skipper from country to have as many runs after Sunil Gavaskar (3449), and MS Dhoni (3454). He is the 4th quickest (in innings) to reach the 3000 mile mark as Test captain- Sir Donald Bradman (37), Mahela Jayawardene (48), Graham Gooch (49) and Steven Smith (49), and Kohli (50).
First captain to hit 3 successive 100s in 3-Test series
After having scored 104* and 213 in the 1st and 2nd Test matches against Sri Lanka, Kohli's 200 plus score, in the third Test in Delhi means that he is the 1st international Test captain to score three consecutive Test centuries in a 3-match series. He is also the first Test captain to score 6 double centuries.
Most 100s against an opposition in a year
Kohli joins the group of players who scored the most test hundreds against a team in a year, all of whom scored six- Desmond Haynes vs Australia (1984), Sachin Tendulkar vs Australia (1998), apart from Kohli vs Sri Lanka this year.
Double centuries by Indian captains
While Kohli has scored 6 double tons as Test captain since 2016, there were only four previous instances of Indian Test captains scoring 200s between 1932-2015, by Mansoor Ali Khan Patuadi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni. With 2,768 international runs, he now has most international runs for India in a calendar year, going past Rahul Dravid's 2,626.
