0 hundreds in 19 innings! Kohli's form takes a dip
Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is a champion performer when it comes to getting the big scores. He is after all the third-highest centurion across formats after legends Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. However, it has been a while we have seen the 31-year-old score a century. Here we look at Kohli's form and what it means for India.
Kohli dismissed by Jamieson on Day 1 of first Test
On Friday, Kohli was tamed by debutant Kyle Jamieson for just two on Day 1 of the first Test in Wellington. The Indian skipper went for an expensive drive, however, the extra bounce affected him. Jamieson (3/48) was top notch on a rain-hit day where India were 122/5, before play was stopped. Kohli scored just two to continue his poor tour of New Zealand.
How has Kohli fared in the current tour of NZ?
Kohli played four T20Is against the New Zealand in the five-match series. He got scores of 45, 11, 38 and 11. India sealed the T20Is 5-0. The Men in Blue were thrashed 5-0 in the ODIs next. Kohli featured in all three games and amassed 51, 15 and 9. That was Kohli's ninth-worst series in terms of ODI batting average.
How has Kohli featured since his last century?
Kohli's last century came against Bangladesh in the Day-Night Test at the Eden Gardens in November 2019. Post that, he featured in nine ODI matches He got four scores of 50-plus and played a key role in helping India beat Australia. In nine T20s, Kohli smashed a best of 94* and also got 70* against West Indies. And now, he was out for two.
Kohli hasn't enjoyed the best of form in this tour
For a player, who has 70 centuries in total, hasn't managed a ton in 19 consecutive innings. This suggests an issue in form. Despite some fireworks against Australia (ODIs) and West Indies (T20Is), Kohli hasn't quite been at his best. In the ongoing tour, Kohli has been below-par and that could have a bearing as far the two-match Test series is concerned.
