Virat Kohli criticizes broadcasters for focusing on his food preferences
What's the story
Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has voiced his displeasure over broadcasters talking about his food habits.
Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, he said they should cover cricket and not get into personal details like what he had for lunch or his favorite food spots.
This isn't the first time.
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and Ranji Trophy 2025, broadcasters also spoke about Kohli's meals.
"A broadcast show needs to talk about the game," Kohli stated.
Broadcast focus
Kohli calls for more depth in sports coverage
Kohli, who has been an integral part of the Indian team for more than 15 years, thinks broadcasters should add more depth to their coverage.
He said at the summit, "We are working toward India becoming a sports-forward nation... It should be a collective responsibility of everyone involved... We need education."
The cricketer believes the focus during matches should be on athletes' experiences, not personal food preferences.
"A broadcast show should not what I ate yesterday for lunch," he added.
Shift in focus
Kohli urges broadcasters to shift focus from food to sport
Kohli's feedback serves as a reminder that sports coverage should be about the game.
He said, "A broadcast show needs to talk about the game, about what an athlete is going through," he added.
The focus should shift from personal stuff back to the sport, and this is a call for more relevant and engaging content for cricket fans.

Meanwhile, Kohli has joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) preseason camp after a short break post India's Champions Trophy win and is expected to open with Phil Salt for RCB.
The team has named Rajat Patidar as their new skipper for the 2025 season, after Kohli reportedly denied the position.
Meanwhile, the team will kick off their campaign on March 22, against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens.
