Simon Katich gives his verdict on Virat Kohli's RCB captaincy
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are one of the three teams who are yet to win the IPL, ever since its inception in 2008. Following another disappointing season this year, the franchise owners underwent an overhaul with the team management, bringing in new coaches. However, Virat Kohli's captaincy was also questioned. Meanwhile, here's what new head coach Simon Katich had to say on it.
No perception about Kohli at all: Katich
Katich cleared the air by saying that there is no perception about Kohli, asides asserting that Kohli wants to make things work differently this time. "But, from what we've discussed with him so far, he has very much been aligned about how we want to move forward, and happy to take advice from our experience and how we see things," said Katich to ESPNCricinfo.
For us, Virat is captain: Katich
"There are always going to be different opinions, but it is about what is best for the team and I think we have both (him and Hesson) spoken about it over the last couple of weeks. There's no question, for us Virat's captain," maintained Katich.
Mike Hesson confirms a strong relationship with Kohli and Katich
Meanwhile, RCB's Director of Cricketing Operations Mike Hesson has said that his relationship with Kohli and Katich has been very good and brutally honest so far. "There is a time and place for everything, but the three of us have to be brutally honest with each other behind closed doors around every decision," declared Hesson.
Hesson looks to get the best out of each other
"It's just asking for clarity on what you were thinking. I think this is a responsibility for all of us, to challenge the three of us as a leadership group to make sure we are getting the best out of each other," opined Hesson.
Time for Kohli to step up
Going by RCB's performance to date, while they have been runners-up on three occasions, they have been shaky for the past three seasons. Meanwhile, Kohli is the only player for them who has been playing ever since 2008. However, he has failed to completely click as a captain, and the author strongly feels it's about time he steps up.
