Virat Kohli's name surfaces in Matthew Kuhnemann's 'chucking' controversy
What's the story
The cricket world is currently mired in a controversy over Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann's bowling action.
The left-arm bowler has been reported for suspected illegal bowling during the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka.
The development came after Sri Lankan players raised doubts over his action.
Despite the setback, Kuhnemann played a pivotal role in Australia's 2-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, taking an impressive 16 wickets at an average of just 17.18.
Action questioned
Kuhnemann's bowling action under scrutiny
Meanwhile, Kuhnemann's bowling action is now being investigated to see if it is legal.
According to the rules, a bowler's elbow can extend up to 15 degrees before delivery, after which the action is considered illegal.
This controversy has sparked fresh debates over an incident involving former Indian captain Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the latter's debut Test match.
Incident revisited
Kohli's incident resurfaces amid Kuhnemann's controversy
Australian cricket writer Ben Horne has slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for their treatment of these incidents.
He pointed out that while Kohli got a lenient punishment for shoulder-barging Konstas, Kuhnemann is being under the scanner for his bowling action.
Horne said these are completely different cases and shouldn't be compared, implying that ICC only acts when an "easy target" comes up.
Comparison drawn
Paine compares Kuhnemann's action to Bumrah's
Former Australian captain Tim Paine has also joined the bandwagon.
Speaking on SEN Radio, he likened Kuhnemann's bowling action to that of Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Although experts have questioned Bumrah's action, the ICC insists that his arm 'hyperextends' and doesn't bend.
Paine sympathized with Kuhnemann, saying being accused of throwing isn't a great mark to have against your name in cricket.
