Kohli doesn't need to bat like Rohit Sharma: Aaron Finch
What's the story
Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has said that star Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli doesn't need to take a leaf out of Rohit Sharma's book.
Finch's comments come ahead of IPL 2025's first match on March 22 between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
While Kohli is known for his consistent run-scoring, Rohit's main focus has been to provide blistering starts in white-ball cricket in recent years.
Performance analysis
Kohli's performance under scrutiny in IPL 2024
In the last IPL season, Kohli was criticized for his strike rate. He had to change his game in the second half of the tournament.
However, he finished with an impressive strike rate of 154.69 for that season, his best in a single IPL season.
Finch was asked if Kohli should bat like Sharma, who has been aggressive from the get-go.
Team dynamics
Finch highlights team dynamics in batting approach
Finch also stressed that Sharma's aggressive batting is backed by strong players in his team.
"When you look at the way that Rohit's done it, have a look at the players that he's had around him," Finch told PTI.
Finch noted that Rohit has Kohli batting at number three for India and this gives him freedom to bat aggressively.
Leadership support
Finch backs Kohli's ability to lead RCB
Finch also highlighted Kohli's ability to lead RCB out of difficult situations.
He said, "When Rohit's made that conscious decision, he's had Virat coming in behind him at number three."
Finch suggested this arrangement allows Rohit the confidence to take risks, knowing Kohli can rectify any mistakes he might make.
