Virat Kohli becomes first batsman to score 3,000 T20I runs
Indian captain Virat Kohli has become the first-ever player to register 3,000 runs in T20 Internationals. The 32-year-old achieved the milestone in the second T20I against England on Sunday. Notably, Kohli crossed the 3,000-run mark as he finished India's run-chase with a six. His unbeaten 73 helped the hosts make a comeback in the five-match series. We take a look at his T20I records.
Kohli finally discovers form after a lean patch
After recording back-to-back ducks, Kohli finally found his form as India won the second T20I. He smashed his 26th T20I fifty, having finished with 73* off 49 balls (Fours: 5, Sixes: 3). During the superb knock, he also became the first batsman to record 400 runs in India-England T20Is. Moreover, Kohli went past Shane Watson in terms of sixes (84).
A look at his numbers in T20Is
Kohli, who is the leading run-scorer in T20Is, now owns 3,001 runs from 87 matches at a phenomenal average of 50.86. He is followed by Martin Guptill (2,839) and Rohit Sharma (2,773) on the tally. Furthermore, Kohli has 26 fifties to his name, also the most in the format. However, the most successful T20I batsman is still devoid of a ton.
Kohli aces successful run-chases in T20Is
Kohli is always deemed as a master of run-chases in white-ball cricket. Interestingly, he is the only batsman in world cricket to have scored over 1,000 runs in successful run-chases. In this case, Kohli has racked up 1,408 runs from 31 games at an astronomical average of 108.30 (Fifties: 14). The likes of Rohit (872) and Eoin Morgan (819) follow him on the tally.
He masters the overall run-chases too
It is interesting to note that Kohli masters the overall run-chases in T20Is as well. He tops this chart too with 1,759 runs at a formidable average of 83.76. As many as 18 of his 26 half-centuries have been recorded while chasing.
A look at other record broken by Kohli
Till date, Kohli remains the fastest to 1,000 and 2,000 T20I runs. Notably, his fifty in the second T20I was the first by an Indian captain against England in 16 T20Is. During the match, he also became only the third captain with over 12,000 international runs (12,056). He became the fastest (226 innings) to the landmark after Ricky Ponting (282) and Graeme Smith (294).
