INDvsWI: Here's how Kohli reacted about Karun Nair's omission
Indian captain Virat Kohli was clear and blunt during the press-conference when asked about the exclusion of Karun Nair from the Test squad against West Indies. Karun Nair, who warmed the bench in the last 6 Test matches, has been dropped from the squad for the WI series. India and West Indies are gearing up for a two-Test series starting October 4 in Rajkot.
It isn't my job to speak on the issue: Kohli
Kohli stated that it isn't his job to speak on the issue as people conveniently merge everything and make it a circle. The Indian captain said, "The selectors have already spoken about it and it is not my place to say. There are three selectors who are doing their job and as I say, people conveniently merge everything and make it a circle."
'Same question shouldn't be brought here again'
He lashed out at the media for bringing in the question as it has already been answered by chief selector MSK Prasad. "So, if a person has spoken about a certain thing, it should be cleared then. It shouldn't be brought in here again. That's exactly what I mean and the chief selector has already spoken to the player of what I know."
Nair is clearly not in the radar of management
Eyebrows were raised when Nair wasn't selected for the fifth Test at Oval against England last month. Instead the Indian management picked newcomer, Vihari. Nair has been warming the bench since quite sometime and has now been dropped for the series against West Indies. Ex-cricketer Gavaskar stated that the message sent to Nair by the management is wrong which would kill his confidence.
After Prasad's claims, Nair stated he wasn't consulted
Earlier, chief selector Prasad had claimed that he had a word with Karun and told him the manner in which he should make a comeback. He had also stated that his colleague Devang Gandhi spoke to Nair in England and asked him to be patient. However, days back, Nair revealed in an interview that he wasn't consulted.
Our take: Indian management not in favor of Nair
There is clearly a feeling of injustice being done to Nair. Despite being in the squad for a long time, it was harsh on Karun Nair to see Vihari make his debut. Further, with no fault of his, the batsman was dropped for the series against West Indies. It sends a message that the Indian management does not want Nair in the side.
