Virat Kohli becomes fourth batter to 12,500 T20 runs: Stats
Batting talisman Virat Kohli has become the first Indian to complete 12,500 runs in T20 cricket. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star accomplished the milestone with his sixth run against Gujarat Titans in Match 52 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Overall, Kohli became just the fourth batter to get this feat. Kohli scored a 27-ball 42 in RCB's four-wicket win over GT.

Playing his 387th T20 match (370 innings), Kohli owns 12,536 runs at 41.92 (SR: 134). He owns 95 fifties besides nine tons in the format. The former RCB skipper has joined Chris Gayle (14,562), Shoaib Malik (13,360), and Kieron Pollard (12,900) in the 12,500-run club in the format.
Over 7,800 runs in IPL
Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the IPL. With this knock, he has raced to 7,805 runs from 248 matches averaging 38-plus, all playing for RCB. The tally includes eight tons, the most in the tournament. In the IPL 2023, he broke Gayle's record of scoring six IPL tons. In terms of runs, Shikhar Dhawan is Kohli's closest rival (6,769).
Most runs in an IPL season
Kohli holds the record for slamming the most runs in an IPL season. He finished the 2016 season with 973 runs. The RCB batter averaged 81.08 and struck at 152.03. He hammered four tons and seven half-centuries in addition to guiding the RCB to the final. In 2023, Shubman Gill had an opportunity to break Kohli's record but finished with 890 runs.
Highest run-getter in T20Is
4,037 of Kohli's overall T20 runs have come in internationals at 51.75. He remains the only batter to have touched the 4,000-run mark in T20Is. His tally of 38 fifty-plus scores is the most for a batter in the format. The tally includes a ton as well. Kohli made his T20I debut in 2010, against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Third-most T20 tons; successive IPL centuries
Kohli's tally of nine tons is the third-most for any batter in the 20-over format. Only Babar Azam (11) and Gayle (22) boast more T20 centuries. Notably, two of Kohli's tons came in IPL 2023 in successive matches. He became the third player to accomplish this feat after Dhawan in 2020 and Jos Buttler in 2022.
