Virat Kohli spends quality time at the nets in Chennai
Indian cricket team star Virat Kohli has returned to the field with a rigorous training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As per PTI, Kohli spent nearly 45 minutes at the nets during India's first training day. After arriving from London, Kohli wasted no time as he got back to basics. Kohli alongside the rest of the squad have been preparing for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which is set to commence on September 19. Here's more.
Team India begins preparations under Gambhir's guidance
The training session was supervised by head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with assistant coach Abhishek Sharma and newly-appointed bowling coach Morne Morkel. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah also participated actively in the training session. The entire squad, led by Rohit Sharma, was present at the venue.
Kohli's return to Chennai after 3 years
Virat Kohli arrived in Chennai directly from London, where he had been spending time with his family, Kohli has returned to Chennai for a Test match after a three-year hiatus. His record at the Chepauk is impressive. He averages 44.50 from four Tests, including a century against Australia in 2013. He owns 267 runs at this venue.
All eyes on Kohli as he searches runs
Kohli missed the home Test series against England earlier this year due to personal reasons. However, Kohli will return to the fold in India's middle order against Bangladesh. With a compact Test schedule on offer, Kohli will hope to make use of the same and score runs. Kohli owns 8,848 runs in Tests at 49.15, including 437 versus Bangladesh at 54.62.
Team India's week-long training camp in Chennai
For the first time in years, the Indian team has organized a week-long training camp ahead of a home season. The team had a month-long break following the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka. Key players including Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have arrived in Chennai for the camp. Other Team India members such as KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Shubman Gill and Axar Patel also joined from Bengaluru and Anantapur after playing in the Duleep Trophy.
India aim to secure World Test Championship points
India are currently leading the ICC World Test Championship table with 68.52% PCT, closely followed by Australia at 62.50% PCT. The team is aiming to secure crucial points in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Team India will be facing New Zealand next ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Down Under. Meanwhile, Bangladesh are fresh from beating Pakistan 2-0 in the recently concluded Test series.
