Football: Sevilla sack Montella after just four months in charge
La Liga outfit Sevilla have announced that they have fired coach Vincenzo Montella. He was appointed by Sevilla only 4 months back. The reason behind his sacking is the nine game winless run of the team. Montella has been sacked for the second time this season. He was earlier sacked by AC Milan in November and had joined Sevilla in December.
Montella axed after Sevilla's nine game winless run
Sevilla decided to part ways with Vincenzo Montella after a run of nine games without a win. This run included 5-0 thrashing in the hands of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Sevilla's 2-1 defeat against 17th placed Levante prompted the sacking. Sevilla are currently struggling at 7th spot in La Liga and could miss out on the Europa League.
Montella masterminded ManU's ouster from Champions League
Montella had replaced Argentine coach Eduardo Berizzo in December and since then has won 11 and lost 10 matches, while drawing 7. His most famous victory as Sevilla manager came against Manchester United earlier in the season. Montella masterminded Jose Mourinho's sides ouster from the Champions League quarter-finals, with a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford followed by a 0-0 draw in Spain.
Joaquin Caparros takes charge
Former Sevilla manager Joaquin Caparros has been named as Montella's replacement. Caparros has been unemployed since parting way with Qatar's Al Ahli in December. Caparros has been handed the job during a difficult time and has only 4 games to secure a European place. His last stint with the club was from 2000 to 2005.
