Records broken in Ranji's final-match between Vidarbha and Delhi
Vidarbha scripted history by clinching the Ranji Trophy for the first time with a nine-wicket triumph over Delhi at the Holkar stadium in Indore. Hat-trick hero Rajneesh Gurbani's 6/59 and Akshay Wadkar's century helped Vidarbha script the fairy tale run. Here is the list of records broken in the final.
Vidarbha beat Delhi to clinch maiden Ranji title
Vidarbha had to wait 61 seasons to win their maiden title. The record for the longest wait is held by Gujarat which ended the drought after 83 seasons. They were the defending champions this season. There have been 3 new Ranji Champions this decade. Rajasthan won it in 2010-2011. Gujarat won it last season.
Rajneesh Gurbani equals a 44-year-old record
Vidarbha's speedster, Rajneesh Gurbani, equalled a 44-year-old record when he picked up he wicket of Dhruv Shorey to claim his hat-trick on the second day of the final. He is only the second man to pick a hat-trick in the final. The earlier record was held by B. Kalyanasundaram, from Tamil Nadu, who landed a hat-trick in the 1973 final.
Architect behind Vidarbha's triumph
Rajneesh Gurbani ended up with 39 wickets, which is the most by any seam bowler. Gurbani picked up 27 wickets in the knockout stages of the tournament at an average of 14.11, 12 wickets more than any other bowler. The young leader
Delhi might have ended on the losing side, but captain Rishabh Pant, broke a unique record as he became the youngest-ever to lead a side in the Ranji Trophy final aged 20-years and 86-days. Tendulkar held the earlier record when he captained Mumbai in the Ranji final during the 1994-95 season, on March 27, 1995. He was 21-years and 337 days then.
Winning is veteran Jaffer's habit
Vidarbha became the 18th team to win the Ranji Trophy since the inaugural tournament in 1934/35. Wasim Jaffer has been in 9 Ranji Trophy finals and has been on the winning side all the 9 times.
