Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen is set to become the youngest Formula 1 driver to reach the 200-race milestone. He will be attaining the landmark moment on Sunday during raceday at the Dutch Grand Prix. 26-year-old Verstappen stated he is not envisioning another 200 F1 races in the future, setting a definitive F1 retirement deadline. When asked if he could envision another 200 F1 races in his future, equivalent to over eight more seasons, Verstappen responded with a resounding "No."
Verstappen reflects on his F1 journey
Verstappen reflected on his journey in Formula 1, stating, "So we passed halfway for sure, but it's been already of course an incredible ride." He noted that the number of races per year has increased significantly. Despite being contracted with Red Bull until 2028 and not planning to retire soon, he expressed uncertainty about following in the footsteps of arch rival Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen's future plans hinge on new F1 regulations
Verstappen hinted that the new F1 regulations set to be introduced in 2026 will have a significant imapct on his future decisions. He stated, "'28 is still very far away. I'm not thinking about a new contract at the moment." The Dutch driver also expressed interest in exploring other real-life race series that are less demanding than Formula 1's record 24-race schedule.
Verstappen's post-F1 aspirations and career beginnings
After Formula 1, Verstappen aims to engage in "other stuff a bit more," particularly those that offer him more time at home. He made his F1 debut in 2015, at the tender age of 17 with Toro Rosso, Red Bull's junior team and has won three world championships since then. Despite his potential retirement from F1, Verstappen remains committed to maintaining his competitive edge in whatever he pursues next.
Verstappen's performance in the 2024 F1 season
After 14 races in 2024, Verstappen leads the Driver Standings with 277 points. The Dutchman has won seven races this season with his last race win coming in Spain. Notably, Verstappen owns nine podium finishes. He finished second at the Miami and British GP. In eight races this season, Verstappen set the fastest lap. He retired at the Australian GP.
