Venkatesh Iyer unfazed by IPL 2025's hefty price tag
What's the story
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer insists that his ₹23.75 crore price tag in IPL 2025 doesn't intimidate him.
Having been with KKR since 2021 and one of their three centurions, Iyer was released ahead of last year's mega auction.
However, KKR made a concerted effort to bring him back at this huge price.
"When the IPL will start, it really doesn't matter," Iyer stated at their pre-season media interaction at Eden Gardens.
Here's more.
Team focus
Iyer emphasizes team spirit over personal accolades
As mentioned, during a pre-season media interaction at Eden Gardens, Iyer emphasized that individual price tags become irrelevant once the IPL begins.
"You are a part of a playing XI. You are part of a team that is going out there to win," he said.
He added that performance isn't just about runs scored or wickets taken but also how one carries themselves on the field and does their job.
Pressure
Iyer acknowledges pressure but remains determined
With 1,326 runs at an average of 31.57 and three wickets in 51 matches over four seasons, Iyer admitted that pressure is always present.
"It's about how you carry yourself on to the field," he said. "And are you able to fulfill the responsibility that has been given to you? And see, again, pressure is always there."
KKR's new captain Ajinkya Rahane also defended Iyer's hefty price tag, saying he "deserved that price."

Rahane defends Iyer's price tag
Having featured in 185 IPL matches and over 190 international games across formats, Rahane defended Iyer's price tag.
"I want to tell you all that Venkatesh Iyer deserved that price," he said.
"People are talking about all these things but he has done well for his franchise on a number of occasions."
Rahane also shared what he expects from his squad as captain: good intent, attitude, putting the team first.
Season opener
KKR starts IPL 2025 season against RCB
KKR will start their 2025 IPL campaign against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on March 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The team is captained by Rahane, who is determined to defend the title.
Rahane stressed on giving one's best every day and not thinking too far ahead, noting the unpredictable nature of cricket where "one single over can turn the game."
