Sprint legend, Usain Bolt secures a trial with Borussia Dortmund
Olympic legend, Usain Bolt moves a step closer to his dream of becoming a professional football player as he takes up on the offer by Borussia Dortmund for a trial. The multiple-time Olympic champion, who reiterated his wish to play for Manchester United, his favorite team, will undergo the trial in March to determine what he wants to do with his career.
Bolt's achievements
Usain Bolt is an eight-time Olympic medallist (2 in 2008, 3 in 2012, and 3 in 2016 Olympics) and an 11-time Gold Medallist at the World Championships across 100m, 200m and 4x100m races. He retired from athletics after the 2017 World Championships.
Bolt's football aspirations
Bolt has repeatedly proclaimed his love for Manchester United and expressed his willingness to play for them. After retirement, the sprinter has been seeking out ways to pursue his dream of playing football at professional level. He talked about how he spoke to former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson to put in a "good word" for him.
How did the trial come about?
Usain Bolt shares the same sponsor, Puma, as that of the Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund The sportswear company has arranged for trial with the German club; he also has an invitation to train with them for a year. The 31-year-old athlete said that he will "crack on and train hard," if Dortmund says he is good enough after the trial.
