US Open daily round-up
The US Open is entering into its last stages and things are heating up. While, on one side, Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens both won to set up an all American semi-final, on the other, there is a possibility of a Nadal-Federer clash in the last 4. Here, we give a round-up of all of yesterday's matches at the Flushing Meadows.
Williams, Sloane set up all American semi-final
Venus Williams reached her third major semi-final in 2017 by overcoming two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2). The 37-year-old will now face unseeded Sloane Stephens in the first all-American women's semi-final in New York since 2002 on Thursday. Stephens progressed earlier in the day after winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) over 16th-seeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.
Pablo Carreno Busta, Kevin Anderson reach semis
Pablo Carreno Busta defeated 29 ranked Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 on Tuesday to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final. The Spaniard will now face Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the last four clash on Friday. Anderson got the better of American Sam Querrey 7-6 6-7 6-3 7-6 in an enthralling contest later on Tuesday.
