23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams, continued her push for another title as she booked a semi-final berth at the US Open 2018. Serena, who lost in the finale of the 2018 Wimbledon, is blitzing hard to win the first Slam since her comeback after giving birth. Meanwhile, defender Sloane Stephens was knocked out. Men's world number three, Juan Martin del Potro progressed.
Juan Martin del Potro defies Isner in hot conditions
Argentine powerhouse Juan Martin del Potro came back from a set down to beat big-serving John Isner and book a berth in the semis. The former champion prevailed 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2 to reach the last four of Slam event. The battling heat forced a 10-minute break in the match. Interestingly, Isner stated that he had to change 11 shirts during the match.
Serena beats Pliskova, Stephens bites the dust
Serena, who was trailing 2-4 in the first set against Karolina Pliskova, won the match 6-4, 6-3. Serena beat the 8th seed Czech and will be hoping to equal Australian Margaret Court's all-time record of Grand Slams (24). She will be up against Latvia's 19th seed Anastasija Sevastova, who ousted holder Sloane Stephens. Stephens hit 27 unforced errors to lose the tie 2-6, 3-6.
Djokovic in action today
Serbian Djokovic will be in action today against Roger Federer's conqueror John Millman. He aims to reach the US Open semis for the 11th time. Meanwhile, Marin Cilic will face Nishikori in the other quarters.
