US Open 2018: Nadal and Williams march on
Day 7 of 2018 US Open produced some thrilling encounters and the battle is intensifying as we proceed to the final rounds of the last Slam of this year. Rafael Nadal won a 4-setter match against Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili to proceed to the quarter-finals. Basilashvili put up a brave fight against Nadal
Rafael Nadal had a tough time containing his opponent Nikoloz Basilashvili in the round of 16 as the Georgian brought out his best against the three-time US Open winner. The scoreboard read 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 as Nikoloz's valiant third set performance had put the Spaniard under pressure. Nadal will now be facing Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals tomorrow, September 4.
Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson knocked out by Dominic Thiem
A high-octane match between Dominic Thiem and Kevin Anderson ensued for a spot in the quarter-finals. Thiem won with a score of 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). The head-to-head record between Anderson and Thiem was 6-1 in Anderson's favor before this encounter. This is the first time ever that Thiem has proceeded to the quarter-finals at the Flushing Meadows.
