Will injured Suryakumar Yadav return for Duleep Trophy?
Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, is making a steady recovery from his injury. His progress has been closely monitored by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical team. Both Yadav and the NCA staff are satisfied with his recovery process. A BCCI source recently confirmed the development during the Duleep Trophy match between India A and India B at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium. Notably, Yadav suffered a hand injury during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match.
Yadav's injury and recovery
Yadav was scheduled to represent India C in the Duleep Trophy's first round against India D in Anantapur. However, an injury prevented his participation. He injured his right thumb while fielding during the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament match against TNCA XI. It transpired on Day 3 of the match. Notably, SKY did not come out to bat in the second innings.
Statement on Yadav's injury
Following his injury, Yadav visited the NCA for treatment and monitoring. The BCCI released a statement on September 4, stating that their medical team is continuously assessing his condition. It was reported that a further evaluation will ascertain his availability for the Duleep Trophy second-round matches.
Duleep Trophy: A crucial platform for Yadav's Test ambitions
The ongoing Duleep Trophy holds significant importance for Yadav's aspirations in Test cricket. If he plays in India C's next match against India B, it will mark his first red-ball fixture in over 14 months. Despite being a formidable T20I player, Yadav is yet to establish himself in other formats. His last red-ball match was also in the Duleep Trophy last year.
