Rohit Sharma seems casual but he's not: Umpire Anil Chaudhary
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, known for his laid-back demeanor and occasional forgetfulness, has been lauded by umpire Anil Chaudhary for his exceptional cricketing acumen. Despite humorous anecdotes about misplacing items or forgetting minor details, Chaudhary emphasizes that Rohit's seemingly relaxed attitude belies a keen understanding of the game. "Rohit may seem casual, but he's a very smart player," said Chaudhary on a podcast.
Chaudhary praises Rohit's batting skills and game sense
Chaudhary praised Rohit's exceptional batting skills, highlighting his footwork and ball sense. He noted that when Rohit is at the crease, it appears as if someone is bowling at 120km/h. However, when another player bats, the speed seems like 160km/h. "He gets involved in a lot of appeals and then says 'let it be.' He may seem casual but he's not casual at all," added Chaudhary.
Umpiring for Rohit is straightforward: Chaudhary
Chaudhary also shared his experience of umpiring for Rohit, stating that it's quite straightforward. He explained that with Rohit, there's no ambiguity about his dismissal - he's either out or not out. "He doesn't rush forward; he stays back and waits for the ball. In cricket, there's something called 'ball sense.' He has an incredible ball-sense," Chaudhary said.
Chaudhary recalls Rohit's exceptional performance in a match
Chaudhary reminisced about a match where Rohit scored over 200 runs, effortlessly handling deliveries that others struggled with. "The balls that were yorkers for others, he was hitting those for sixes," Chaudhary recalled. He further praised Rohit's understanding of swing and his ability to dominate the game single-handedly when in form. Notably, Rohit has scored at least one ton across all formats in the past 12 months.
