Milan were the better side as United struggled to find momentum in majority of the first half. Milan were denied a goal when Franck Kessie's first-half volley was ruled out for handball. Harry Maguire missed a sitter after a Bruno Fernandes flick from a corner. Amad Diallo handed United the lead after coming on at half-time. Kjaer then got the important goal in injury-time.

As per Opta, Amad Diallo became the youngest non-British player to score for Manchester United in major European competition (18y 243d), netting with his first ever shot for the Red Devils.
