UEFA Awards: Ronaldo, Modric and Salah in three-man shortlist
On Monday, UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, declared its three-man shortlist for the Player of The Year award. Former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is in contention for the trophy along with his former team mate Luka Modric and Liverpool's Mo Salah. The performances of the Portuguese legend
The winner of the last two UEFA Player of The Year awards, Ronaldo was equally brilliant in 2017-18. He scored an incredible 15 goals in 13 Champions League matches, last season. In terms of goals, Ronaldo started the 2017-18 season on a low note, but found his form after Christmas. He went on to net in a total of 44 goals in 44 appearances.
Luka Modric lets his actions do all the talking
Ronaldo's ex-team mate Luka Modric surely deserves his name in the list. He has been astonishing, last season, with his play making skills in the mid-field. Modric is someone who has an extraordinary vision and can pass the ball to the right player at the right time. His exploits also saw him winning the Golden Ball at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Mo Salah's debut season at Liverpool has been incredible
Salah joined Liverpool, last season, under Jurgen Klopp and since then he has never looked back. Champions League saw him scoring 10 goals on his way to guiding Liverpool to the finals. Salah won the Golden Boot for being the highest scorer in EPL (32 goals). He also bagged the PFA Player of The Year. He has become Liverpool's fan favorite.
When will the awards be announced?
The winner of the award will be announced on August 30, the day of the Champions League draw. The three shortlisted players in the women's category are- Amandine Henry, Ada Hegerberg, and Pernille Harder. UEFA Goal of The Season will be announced on August 27.
