UEFA imposes heavy sanctions on Pep Guardiola
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been handed a two-match ban by the UEFA. Guardiola was sent to stands during the second-leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool in April. He was punished for his comments against the referee. Pep will have to miss his first Champions League game of next season, with the second match deferred for a year.
Guardiola banned for 2 games for confronting referee
Guardiola had confronted referee Antonio Miguel Lahoz as he stormed onto the pitch during the second leg defeat at the Etihad Stadium. The Manchester City boss was unhappy about the referee Lahoz ruling out Leroy Sane's goal, just minutes earlier, as an offside. Guardiola was also punished for influencing a substitution after he was sent off.
Liverpool fined for fan violence
Liverpool have been fined €20,000 by the UEFA after fans conducted an assault on Manchester City's bus ahead of the high octane fixture. According to reports, bottles were hurled at the bus outside the Anfield stadium by Liverpool fans. The bus was damaged to such an extent that it couldn't make the trip back to Manchester.
Liverpool fans have been unruly this season
Apart from the bus violence, Liverpool were fined for their fans' unruly behaviour including setting off fire-works, throwing objects and violence. The fire-works incident occurred during the second leg of the semi-final clash against Roma in Italy.
Atletico and CSKA ordered to pay for their 'unruly' behavior
Other than this, CSKA Moscow were fined €20,000 since their fans set off fire-works and blocked the stairway in the Europa League quarter-final. Europa League champions Atletico Madrid were ordered to pay an amount of €18,000 for blocking stairway against Arsenal in the semi-final.
