UEFA Champions League 2018-19: Records scripted on match-day 3
The Champions League brings with it an opportunity to see the elite clubs of Europe clash against each other and last night didn't disappoint. Juventus defeated Manchester United at their home though Ronaldo did not manage to find the back of the net. Manchester City cruised past Shakhtar at their home with a scoreline of 3-0, and so did Roma. Here're the records broken.
Juventus vs Manchester United: Old Lady 1-0 Old Trafford
Paulo Dybala's goal helped Juventus register their first win against Manchester United since 1996. Interestingly, in 1996, they had also won with a score of 1-0. Paulo already has four Champions League goals to his name, one less than Messi and Dzeko (5). This is the first time since November 2005 that United did not net in a goal in successive home UCL matches.
Real Madrid trump Plzen 2-1
Real Madrid's win saw them extending their unbeaten streak to 27 in UCL group-stage games at the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos have now won against the highest number of clubs in UCL history, with Viktoria being their 57th victim. After Raul and Messi, Benzema is the only player to score in 14 successive UCL campaigns, and he has also become UCL's fourth highest scorer.
Manchester City dominate Shakhtar 3-0 at their home
This was Shakhtar's first home match loss against an English side, having drawn two and won five thus far. Out of their last 12 group stage matches, City have lost just twice, winning eight and drawing two matches. David Silva (7 goals, 8 assists) now trails only Aguero (33) in terms of being involved in the highest number of UCL goals for Manchester City.
