IPL 2020: U-19 star Bishnoi excited to work with Kumble
India's teenage spinner Ravi Bishnoi was a revelation in the recently-concluded ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa. India lost in the final, however, Bishnoi stood out with four wickets against Bangladesh U-19. The youngster, who was earlier snapped up by Kings XI Punjab for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is excited to work with coach Anil Kumble. Here's more.
Bishnoi was purchased for Rs. 2 crore by KXIP
Earlier, 19-year-old Bishnoi was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 2 crore in the IPL 2020 auction. He was part of Rajasthan Royals practice camp in 2018. Bishnoi is one of the U-19 stars, who is highly backed to succeed in IPL 2020. The young leg-spinner might prove lethal on the wavered Indian tracks with his sharp googlies. He is a rich talent.
Bishnoi was the highest wicket-taker in ICC U-19 World Cup
Leg-spinner Bishnoi finished the ICC U-19 World Cup with 17 wickets. He is now the most successful Indian bowler in an edition of the tournament. The spinner got past the likes of Anukul Roy, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma and Shalabh Srivastava (14 wickets each). He finished as the highest wicket-taker in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020. Bishnoi had figures worth 4/30 against Bangladesh.
Bishnoi will hope to make a mark in IPL 2020
Moving on from the U-19 World Cup, the next stage is awaiting Bishnoi. He will now hope to make a mark in the IPL, where there are plenty of world class international players on offer. Bishnoi said he will look to spend a lot of time with KXIP coach Kumble. This will help him to fine-tune his game further.
Bishnoi keen to pick Kumble's brain during IPL 13
"I am very excited that I will get to spend quality time with none other than Anil Kumble Sir during the IPL and my only lookout is to pick his brain and learn as much as I can. I will look to stay around him and work on the finer areas of my bowling under his guidance," he said to IANS.
U-19 World Cup and IPL are two different platforms: Bishnoi
"The U-19 World Cup, as well as the Indian Premier League, are two very important platforms for any budding cricketer. These are the tournaments wherein your performances get highlighted and the selectors take note, so I will definitely look to give it my best because at the end of the day, we all dream of playing for the Indian team," Bishnoi added.
