Kumble not the top contender anymore
After officially re-applying for the job of Indian cricket team coach, sources close to BCCI claim that Anil Kumble is not the 'favorite' for the job. Kumble submitted a presentation of his plans after he was given a direct entry by the BCCI. He has been short-listed for interviews along with Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Lalchand Rajput, and Dodda Ganesh.
Laxman not to be present during Tom Moody's interview
VVS Laxman, a member of the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee, will not be present during the interview of Australian Tom Moody. Laxman and Moody work together as part of Sunrisers Hyderabad's coaching team.
10 players openly blame Kumble for being 'too bossy'
Reportedly, ten players of the Indian cricket team have told the BCCI officials that they are against selection of Anil Kumble as the next coach of the Indian team. The players have told that Kumble is 'too bossy' and have also blamed him for imposing strict fitness standards. Only one player has openly come forward in support of Kumble.
What did the players tell BCCI?
"The difference between 2011 World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten and Kumble is that while the former was a friend, who used to keep conversations confidential, Kumble has a habit of giving his own example of strict discipline and then taking the conversation to others."
A tough fight between Sehwag, Moody
As per a source close to the BCCI, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag are the front runners for the job of head coach. The source said, "The way this is going, it'll have to be between Viru and Moody, depending on how the committee goes about it." India will get its next coach before Champions Trophy is over.
Advisory committee in 'awkward' situation
BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee are in London to interview the applicants. However, if they are not to retain Kumble as the coach, they will have to come up with a strong reason given Kumble's good record in the last one year.
