Seamer Trent Boult gave Rajasthan Royals a fine start against Mumbai Indians in Match 38 of IPL 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The left-arm pacer dismissed former MI skipper Rohit Sharma in the first over to gain impetus. This marked Boult's 26th wicket in the first over of an IPL innings, now the most by a bowler in this regard.
Boult goes past Bhuvneshwar Kumar
As mentioned, Boult now has the most wickets in the first over of an IPL innings. He has 26 wickets in this regard at an average of 17.65. He broke a tie with India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who owns 25 first-over scalps in the IPL. No other bowler has more than 20 wickets, with Praveen Kumar (15) following Bhuvi.
Boult once again dismisses Rohit
Boult once again outclassed Rohit, who got caught behind the wicket while playing a rash stroke. The left-arm pacer also got the better of Rohit in the previous MI-RR encounter, at the Wankhede Stadium. Notably, Rohit has now fallen to Boult six times in T20 cricket. It is worth noting that Boult has the most first-over wickets since IPL 2020. In fact, he remains the only bowler with over 20 wickets in this regard (23). Bhuvneshwar, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj follow Boult with eight scalps each.
