AUS vs WI, Travis Head falls for 99: Key stats
Australian batter Travis Head missed out on a century on Day 2 of the opening Test versus West Indies in Perth. Head was dismissed for 99 by Kraig Brathwaite. He consumed just 95 balls, striking at 104.21. Australia declared their innings on 598/4, with Steve Smith remaining unbeaten on 200. Head enjoyed himself in the middle and helped Australia post a significant first-innings score.
A solid knock from Head's blade
Head came into the crease when Australia lost double-centurion Marnus Labuschagne (204) as the score read 402/3. Head forged a solid 196-run stand at a brisk pace alongside Smith for the 4th wicket. Head was superb with his application, hitting some crunch shots. He managed 11 fours, showing a lot of character. He was out while trying to play a late dab.
9th fifty for Head
Head now has nine fifties in Test cricket and a maiden one versus WI. Notably, this is his first outing versus the Windies. Overall, Head has raced to 1,700 runs in the format at an average of 40.47. His tally includes four tons as well. At home, Head has piled up 1,296 runs at 51.84. He has hit his 11th fifty-plus score at home.
Aussies amass a superb score
Australia declared their innings on 598/4. Smith remained unbeaten on 200. He smashed 16 fours in a 311-ball knock. Labuschagne smashed a 350-ball 204, sharing a 142-run stand alongside Usman Khawaja (65) on Day 1. He then forged a terrific 251-run stand alongside Smith. After Labuschagne's dismissal, Smith and Travis Head were solid. For WI, Brathwaite claimed two scalps.
