India vs Sri Lanka ODI series: Standout performers
Rohit Sharma led India sealed the 3 match ODI series against Sri Lanka on Sunday after clinching a comfortable 8 wicket victory in Vizag riding on Shikhar Dhawan's heroics. The series triumph now takes India's record to 8 consecutive ODI bilateral series wins. Now with the T20 series next on the cards, we take a look at the standout performers in the ODIs.
Rohit Sharma
In the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit has done a commendable job as the captain. After losing the first ODI, India bounced back in style with Rohit leading from the front with his uneaten 208, his third ODI double hundred. The Mumbai man finished the series as the top scorer with 217 runs at an average of 120.56.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Chahal has seen his stock rise in limited overs cricket over the last 12 months. With no Ashwin and Jadeja in the limited overs format for a while now, Chahal has stepped up to the occasion. The leg break bowler ended up as the series leading wicket taker with 6 wickets in just two innings.
Upul Tharanga
The only Sri Lankan who makes this list, Upul Tharanga is in the form of his life. He led the batting for Lankans in the series. In the third ODI, he also reached the 1000 run milestone for the year. Tharanga scored 151 runs at an average of 50.33 and finished as Sri Lanka's second most run scorer after Angelo Mathews in the series.
Shreyas Iyer
This 23-year-old from Mumbai is making a case for a regular spot in the Indian squad. Filling in for Kohli at the number 3 spot, Iyer had a forgettable debut in Dharamshala. But he made a strong comeback in Mohali with a blistering 88 at a strike rate of 125.71 and continued that same form in Vizag with his 65 runs-inning in 63 balls.
Shikhar Dhawan
The southpaw from Delhi was the most consistent performer of the series. He was dismissed for a duck in the first ODI but bounced back with a 68 in Mohali and an unbeaten ton in Vizag that led India to victory. He finished the series with a 168 runs at an average of 84 and also took home the man of the series award.
