Here are the best overseas performances by Indians against SA
Team India will aim to snatch its first Test series win against South Africa in South Africa after a long history of losses. In the six Indian tours of South Africa, India have never managed to win a Test series. India have lost 5 and drawn 1. Here are the top away performances by Indians against the Proteas over the years.
When Sreesanth scripted the first ever Test match win
While sidelined from cricket now, Sreesanth played a huge role in scripting India's first ever Test match win in South Africa in 2006-07 tour. In one of the finest spells by an Indian bowler, the pacer had figures of 5/40 to bowl out the hosts for 84 during the 1st Test at Johannesburg. He was the player of the match.
Laxman's special innings at Durban
The second and the last time India won a Test match in SA was during 2010-11 tour. India won the 2nd Test on a tricky Durban wicket, all thanks to VVS Laxman's brilliant batting. Not only was he the highest scoring batsman in both innings, he also set up India for a win with his 96 in the second. India drew the series 1-1.
Rahul Dravid's first Test century
Rahul Dravid's batting, in 3rd Test of 1996-97 tour, would undoubtedly be one of the top performances by an Indian in South Africa. In the 1st innings, Dravid scored his first Test century (148 off 541) and then scored 81 in the second, putting India in a position to win. Unfortunately, India fell short of taking two wickets and the match was drawn.
Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, from the last tour
Despite losing the Test series 1-0, the 2013-14 tour has memorable performances from the likes of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravindra Jadeja. The 1st test was one of the closest Test draws which saw Kohli score 119 and 96 in both the innings respectively. Though India lost the 2nd Test at Durban, Jadeja was the bright spot with bowling figures of 6/138.
