FIFA World Cup: These debutants are having a dream tournament
The 2018 FIFA World Cup hasn't disappointed us so far. We have seen several 'unpredictable' results this term, with minnows overpowering giants. For several players, 2018 edition was their first FIFA World Cup. While most of them failed to make their mark, there are some who have been exceptional in their maiden tournament. Here is our list of top debutants.
England's Harry Kane
England's greatest striker, since Alan Shearer, Harry Kane has been on fire this term. He is currently the tournament's leading goal-scorer with five goals under his belt. Notably, Kane scored a brace against Tunisia and then topped it with a hat-trick against Panama. The England captain might be playing his first World Cup but he is leading the Three Lions by example.
Egypt's Mohamed Salah
Without any doubt, Mohamed Salah will go down in the history books as Egypt's greatest footballer of all-time. The 26-year-old is Egypt's leading goal-scorer in the tournament with 2 goals to his name. Egypt's World Cup campaign might have come to an end but Salah had a fantastic year. He scored 48 goals in 57 games for his club and country.
Russia's Denis Cheryshev
Hosts Russia are enjoying a dream campaign and the credit goes to Denis Cheryshev. The Villarreal winger has been his nation's biggest attacking threat with 3 goals in his maiden World Cup. Cheryshev is one of the two players from the Russian squad who are not a part of their national league. He grew up in Spain, which influenced his style of football.
France's Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe, the second youngest player at the 2018 World Cup, deserves to make this list. He became France's youngest footballer to score a goal at a major tournament when he found the back of the net against Peru. It remains his only goal in the tournament so far. Still just 19, he has a long way to go.
