Which are the greatest WWE matches of all time?
What makes a WWE match interesting is the tension, drama, ups and downs, great moves and comebacks, and of course the prize at stake. Sometimes it is for the title, sometimes for honor and at other times, revenge. A lot of preparation goes behind each match, but only few games achieve a historical status. Here we look at the greatest matches of all time.
The Undertaker vs Mankind
The Hell in a Cell was a match especially crafted for the Undertaker. He faced Mankind in this epic encounter in 1998 which saw both the superstars climb up to the roof of the cage, a 16-feet structure, from where the Deadman would throw over Mankind. The statement of Jim Ross, "by God he's broken in half" still rings in the ears of fans.
Triple-H vs The Undertaker
Triple-H and Undertaker have met thrice at WrestleMania but this match eclipses any other by miles. Often counted among the greatest ever, a lot was at stake for both of them. While this was Triple-H's third attempt to defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania, the Dead was looking to protect his winning streak. After an hour of fierce pain and classic moves, Undertaker stood tall.
CM Punk vs John Cena
Punk and Cena were booked for this match after the infamous 'pipe-bomb' controversy. The match was scheduled at the request of Cena. Cena was told that he would be fired if he failed to win. The match was an emotional and gruelling affair that lasted over 45 minutes, with both superstars at their very best. Punk won in the end, retaining his WWE championship.
Stone Cold vs The Rock
Two of the most popular WWE stars headlined WrestleMania 17 as they locked horns for the Championship. The stage was set to create history and they didn't disappoint. Neckbreakers and Rockbottoms followed, stunners were dished out at will. It seemed a never ending epic match till the greatest shock was pulled by McMahon, who sided with Austin to team up and defeat The Rock.
Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker
Nothing could have been more befitting to headline the 25th anniversary of 'The Showcase of the Immortals'. Michaels had achieved everything except one thing that no one in history had- to defeat the Deadman in his own backyard, WrestleMania. Hyped to epic proportions, the match lived up to its reputation as Taker and Michaels put up an unparalleled show, with Taker emerging 17-0.
