Presenting Team Australia's highest Test totals in Asia
What's the story
The Australia team has always been known for its dominating performance, be it at home or overseas.
Their recent batting exhibition against Sri Lanka in Galle where they scored a mind-boggling 654/6d, speaks volumes about their adaptability and technical excellence.
The Aussies were powered by centuries from Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, and Josh Inglis.
Here we look at Australia's highest Test scores in Asia.
#4
581/4d in Chattogram, 2006
Australia crushed Bangladesh with a first-innings score of 581/4d in the 2006 Chattogram Test.
This was mostly because of an unforgettable unbeaten 201 from Jason Gillespie, who is mainly known for his bowling skills.
Gillespie's heroics earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. Meanwhile, Michael Hussey (182) was the other centurion as the Aussies recorded an innings triumph.
#3
599/4d in Peshawar, 1998
In 1998, Australia declared at 599/4 against Pakistan in Peshawar, courtesy a record-breaking 334 from Mark Taylor.
Despite the best efforts from both sides on the flat pitch that suited batters, a result was never in sight due to batting-friendly conditions.
Taylor's innings is one of the finest in Australian cricket history and has ensured his place among the greats. Notably, Justin Langer (116) scored a hundred in the drawn game.
#2
617/10 in Faisalabad, 1980
In 1980, Australia took on Pakistan in Faisalabad and set a mammoth first-innings score of 617/10.
While skipper Greg Chappell slammed a double-hundred (235), Graham Yallop contributed with 172 runs.
Despite a slow scoring rate of merely 2.92, Australia's methodical approach and resilience ensured they reached the massive total without taking unnecessary risks.
The match, which resulted in a draw, witnessed the classic grind of Test cricket, with both teams not giving an inch.

654/6d in Galle, 2025
The one in Galle was Australia's highest team total on Asian soil. As mentioned, the visitors declared at 645/6d on Day 2.
Khawaja, who slammed a career-best 232, was the star of Australia's massive total. Stand-in skipper Smith also made his bat talk and played a 141-run knock.
Inglis (102) recorded the second-fastest ton on Test debut, off 90 balls, to torment the Lankans even further.
