A host of records broken by Kohli
Rohit, Kohli add 246-run stand, get past Dravid and Ganguly
As Kohli scored his 36th ton, vice-captain Rohit also smashed his 20th ODI century and a first against West Indies. The duo added 246 runs for the second wicket. This is the fourth highest partnership by an Indian pair in ODIs. They overcame Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly (236), who achieved their stand in 1999 against Sri Lanka.
6,000 runs surpassed by Virat while chasing
The 29-year-old Kohli became only the second batsman to score 6,000+ runs while chasing in ODI cricket after former Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. This was Kohli 15th ODI ton at home and his 24th in Asia. He also saw himself notching his 14th ODI century as skipper and 22nd while chasing in this format.
Kohli has second most centuries by skippers in ODIs
Kohli is second in the list of the most number of centuries by captains in ODI cricket. With 14, he is now only behind former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting (22). He is also second in the list of the most tons scored in a country. Sachin had 20 centuries in India. Kohli (15) went past Ponting (14) in terms of this particular landmark.
Rohit and Kohli pile up the records with their partnership
Rohit and Kohli amassed their 21st century stand in ODI cricket. They equaled former India greats Rahul and Ganguly. Ganguly and Tendulkar (38) top the list. This was also their 8th century stand while chasing in ODIs. The pair equaled the duo of Sehwag and Tendulkar. Ganguly and Sachin (17) are on top of the list for India.
Kohli amasses 889 runs in ODIs in 2018
Kohli also joined an illustrated list of players scoring 2,000+ runs in international cricket in three successive calendar years. Only Tendulkar (1996, 97, 98), Matthew Hayden (2002, 03, 04) and Joe Root (2015, 16, 17) have achieved the same. Kohli is 4th on the list of most runs scored in 2018 in ODIs. He has 889 runs this year at an average of 127.00.
