#GamingBytes: Five tips to survive PUBG's red zones
PUBG forces players to maintain a tactical approach to Battle Royale as they try to loot and survive among 100 players within shrinking playzones. As if the circle shrinks were not enough, PUBG also included red zones which are supposedly random map areas suffering air bombings. Red zones appear suddenly giving players little time to react. Here are five tips to survive red zones.
The myth surrounding the red zone
We strongly suggest that red zones are avoided at all costs and our tips for survival should come in handy only if traversing through them become unavoidable. Despite developers saying red zones appear randomly, they are rumored to appear where players camp for long times or areas with high player presence. Further, they are rumored to indicate the number of players in an area.
Seek shelter from the storm
The first reaction you should have when caught in a red zone is to look for shelter. Head for the nearest building to wait out the bombing. Notably, in PUBG, bombs don't damage standing structures. However, keep in mind that red zones might appear while you are outside the playzone. If the playzone is a far away, brave the bombs and keep moving.
A roof of one's own
A tendency while seeking shelter in the red zone is to run into the closest building. However, some buildings in PUBG do not have proper roofs. For example, some barns have gaps in roofs. Avoid such buildings, as bombs can fall through these gaps. If you must enter buildings with damaged roofs, look for spots where there is a roof directly over your head.
A break from the pace of an intense Battle Royale
Since there is nothing to do but wait out the bombing in whichever building you are camped in, use the time effectively. Loot the building, reload your weapons, optimize your inventory and heal up if you need to. Moreover, keep an eye out for opponents struggling to cross the red zone and you might end up racking up a few lucky kills.
Break on through to the other side
If you happen to be traveling in a vehicle when a red zone appears, the best thing to do is keep driving. Look at the red zone spread on the mini-map and take the shortest route out of the bombing area. Since vehicles offer great speed and bombs appear sometime after red zones are marked on the map, you can safely escape.
You could go your own way
The worst possible scenario is an open area with no vehicles and a red zone appearing. In these cases, tuck both your guns in and run, as it allows faster sprinting. Avoid crouching and going prone at all costs, as they reduce speed. Keep a sharp ear out for a shrill whistling sound which indicates bombs dropping, and try your best to dodge them.
