Tim Southee becomes seventh man with fifer in The Hundred
New Zealand's Tim Southee powered Birmingham Phoenix to a six-wicket win over Trent Rockets at Edgbaston in the 2024 Hundred men's competition. Southee took a historic five-wicket haul as the Phoenix chased down 119 in 93 balls. The Kiwi pacer was adjudged the Player of the Match with brilliant bowling figures worth 5/12. He became the seventh man with a fifer in The Hundred.
The match's standout bowler
Southee was clearly the match's standout bowler. He took five wickets for just 12 runs in 20 balls. He delivered 13 dot balls and conceded a solitary boundary throughout the match. Chris Wood, who recorded two scalps, was the only other Phoenix bowler with a wicket. Tom Banton, Joe Root, Tom Alsop, Lewis Gregory, and Sam Cook were Southee's victims.
Seventh bowler with this feat
As mentioned, Southee has become the seventh bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the Hundred men's competition. Calvin Harrison, Henry Brookes, Marchant de Lange, Joshua Little, Imran Tahir, and Sam Curran are the others. Interestingly, no bowler has taken multiple fifers in the 100-ball competition as of now. Southee has overall taken 16 wickets from eight matches at 11.06 in Men's Hundred.
